The Research Group on Criminology and Juvenile Delinquency (UCLM) presented in Vienna the project “Hablemos Claro”, a collection of accessible documents for minors facing criminal proceedings.
A working meeting of the EU-funded project “From law to practice: Strengthening procedural rights in police custody” took place in Vienna (Austria) on 4-5 April. This project aims to improve the practical application and respect for human rights in criminal proceedings, and thus strengthen public confidence in justice. Specifically, it focuses on analysing and improving how the right to information, the right of access to a lawyer, audio-visual recordings of police interrogations and the right to free legal aid.
The project seeks to identify examples of good practices that improve the accessibility of justice. In this sense, the Research Group on Criminology and Juvenile Delinquency of the University of Castilla-La Mancha presented the “Hablemos Claro” Project (https://www.uclm.es/grupos/crimijov/transferencia/hablemos-claro) in a session on “examples of good practices in the field of accessible legal proceedings for minors”.
“Hablemos Claro” is a collection of accessible documents for minors who are involved in criminal proceedings because they are suspected of having committed criminal offences. The aim is to make minors aware of the different procedural steps they will go through during the proceedings, as well as the rights they have at each stage. You can see the presentation of the project at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rvPRzNCsLA&feature=emb_title
These documents are free for public use and are available in three formats:
– Text format (https://www.uclm.es/grupos/Crimijov/Transferencia/Hablemos-claro/Detencion-texto)

– Audiovisual format (https://www.uclm.es/grupos/Crimijov/Transferencia/Hablemos-claro/Detencion-audiovisual)
“Hablemos Claro” becomes a practical application of criminology that helps to make the criminal justice process easier and fairer for minors.
